Panorama:Is pakistan responsible for deaths in UK NHS operations due to dirty equipment they sell us?
watched most of rel Panorama prog. Surgical instruments made sometimes in 'village blacksmith' conditions..or worse. Would say the Pakistanis are working heroically in impossible circumstances (regulations allow to label instruments made from German bulk steel finished in Pakistan as 'German'). Rather than pillory the Pakistanis on this one..we should be asking why the NHS tenders manufacture of instruments to private companies who then outsource the work to countries like Pakistan. It's a cost-cutting exercise (pardon pun) which could put patients lives at risk all over Europe..not just the UK. 3rd world 'sweatshops' which turn out T-shirts, trainers etc often using child labour @ <5$ per day are bad enough..obv profits & cost-saving comes before risk to human lives
