Court wants to continue my case..?

I was arrested on 10/4/2010 for Malicious wounding I had turned my self in... i finally got a 10,000 dollar bond on the 13th of October 2010... i was indicted by the grand jury in December of 2010. then had an arraignment and my jury trial was set for June 2nd 2011... Well my public defender called me today to tell me that the prosecutor did not want to accept the plea he offered of dropping in to misdemeanor assault. he then tells me that the court is continuing it, not him or the commonwealth. He said maybe for reasons such as too many cases on the docket that day.. Well this has been dragged out since October so what right do I have?! I want it heard ASAP. I want it all done and over with. In a nutshell.. I was at a party, another girl and I got in a fight. Her boyfriend and another guy broke us up. Her boyfriend than choked me and would NOT let go. I feared for my life so i hit him in the nose w/ a beer bottle (closest thing on ground). How would I ask for a speedy trial? Or would that not be a good idea at this point? And what are the chances of the prosecutor changing her mind about the plea? This is also in the state of Virginia
